Department of Justice Simulation

The students in a senior capstone class in the fall semester of 2019 continued the work that the previous advocacy class had done. Based on the three past campaigns, the students decided to expand upon the campaign focused on employment for previously incarcerated women. After completing their research, the students created a campaign that was based upon hosting the Department of Justice Reentry Simulation.

Local business owners, media and twenty-five community members attended the simulation event. Those in attendance included representatives from Senator Joe Manchin’s office, Legal Aid WV and Workforce WV. The event kicked off with a complimentary hot breakfast accompanied by a student-lead presentation of details regarding the project and the issues affecting West Virginia connected with the mass incarceration of women. Following the presentation, attendees got to participate in the Reentry Simulation. The students secured event coverage from WBOY-TV, Morgantown News, The Dominion Post, and WVU Today.
