Back on Your Feet Box

It’s no secret that formerly incarcerated people struggle to find employment upon leaving prison. Our students realized this and decided to create a third campaign focused on helping these women reenter the workforce. The “Back-On-Your-Feet-Box” campaign engaged college students in creating boxes full of items that would help a woman feel more confident at a job interview. These items included:

  • Professional clothing
  • Self-care items like makeup, nailpolish, etc.
  • Notebooks
  • Tips and information on how to have a successful job interview

A website for the campaign was created. Social media content included visuals and videos that informed community members on how to make a box and why they should participate in the campaign. To kick off this initiative, the team hosted an event with the WVU Campus Ministry to put boxes together to send to a halfway house in Hampshire County, WV.

Their efforts also resulted in a grant from the WVU Council for Women’s Concerns to fund the continuation of their work.
